Jay’s love of her work with children with special needs has brought her much experience of working with children on the autistic spectrum. This yoga system was originally developed for children with Down’s Syndrome, but encompasses all special needs and conditions. Her yoga therapy sessions are run in schools, nurseries and wellbeing centres. Jay can also provide 1-to-1 sessions in people’s homes in North London.
Jay also supports women through pregnancy, helping with pelvic pain, and fear of birth. Her classes welcome first time mums as well as women needing support to carry them through a subsequent pregnancy. Having had both a water birth using yoga and a “natural caesarean” (due to a medical condition), she can support women through any birth choice they feel best suits them.
Jay is a mum to two “Yogababies”. She qualified as a Hospital Play Specialist in 1994, specialising in the Neonatal Unit. In 1997 she trained as a certified Infant Massage Instructor with the International Association of Infant Massage. During 2002 Jay qualified in both infant yoga through Birthlight, as well as yoga for children with special needs with Sonia Sumar. In 2004 she received her Birthlight Perinatal Diploma and undertook the Advanced 1 “Yoga for the Special Child” training. In 2006 she qualified as an Advanced “Yoga for the Special Child Teacher in Brazil and in 2007 completed the final Advanced Level 4 and qualified as an Integral Hatha Yoga Teacher.
After giving twelve years to the National Health Service Jay worked in the community for three years as a teacher working with children and families with a variety of profound special needs. She also taught two antenatal and baby yoga classes for Sure Start in two localities within Camden. Jay started Yogababies in 1999. She is the Special Needs Baby Yoga Tutor for Birthlight. Jay has also co-written a book on baby yoga with Francoise Freedman, the founder of Birthlight.
